On the 26th (local time), economic breaking news channel Walter Bloomberg, citing online outlet Axios, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump on the 23rd during the UN General Assembly in New York and requested support for long-range missiles.
In an interview with Axios, President Zelensky said, "President Trump knows, and there is one thing I asked for," adding, "I cannot say what it is, but President Trump replied, 'I'll consider it.'"
President Zelensky said, "It does not mean we will necessarily use it," and explained, "If obtained, it could become an additional means of pressure to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table."
Axios, citing Ukrainian officials and a person familiar with the talks, said the weapon Zelensky requested was the U.S. long-range precision-guided cruise missile 'Tomahawk.' The Tomahawk has a maximum range of 2400㎞ and can strike deep into the Russian mainland, including Moscow.
However, Axios added that it is uncertain whether the United States will actually provide the weapon to Ukraine.
