[Breaking] Trump "Impose a 100% tariff on all films made outside the United States"

U.S. President Donald Trump on the 29th (local time) announced he would impose a 100% tariff on films produced outside the United States.

President Trump said on the social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, "Our film production business has been stolen from us by other countries, like stealing candy from a baby."

He said, "California, with its weak and incompetent governor, was particularly hard hit. Therefore, I will impose a 100% tariff on all films made outside the United States to resolve this long-standing, never-ending problem."

However, he did not mention the criteria for what counts as 'films made outside the United States' or the schedule for imposing the tariffs.

President Trump has previously expressed his intention to impose tariffs to protect the U.S. film industry.

In May, he posted on Truth Social that "the U.S. film industry is disappearing very quickly," saying he had instructed the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to impose a 100% tariff on all films produced abroad.

Meanwhile, his mentioning of the California governor in connection with the film tariffs is interpreted as an attempt to attack Governor Gavin Newsom, who is considered a potential Democratic presidential contender.

It appears to be an effort to partly blame Newsom for the difficulties faced by the film industry; President Trump has consistently attacked Newsom before, even blaming him when major wildfires occurred in California.
