[Breaking News] Trump "Will impose substantial tariffs on countries that do not produce furniture in the United States"

U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 29th (local time) that he would impose a "substantial level" of tariffs on countries that produce furniture outside the United States.

President Trump wrote on the social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, "To make North Carolina, which has had its furniture industry completely taken by China and other countries, great again, I will impose substantial tariffs on any country that does not produce furniture in the United States."

He added, "Details will be announced later."

The state of North Carolina is one of the swing states in the U.S. presidential election and, based on abundant timber resources, was the largest furniture production area in the United States, but an increase in furniture imports from low-wage countries such as China has dealt a blow to the furniture manufacturing industry.
