According to economic breaking-news channel Walter Bloomberg on the 30th (local time), the U.S. Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected that if a government shutdown (temporary work stoppage) occurs due to a funding gap for the 2026 fiscal year, an average of about 750,000 federal government employees could be placed on furlough each day.
The CBO analyzed that as a result the federal government would be unable to pay about $400 million in payroll costs each day.
However, the CBO added that the number of furloughed employees could vary by agency, and some departments may adjust staffing over time.
