The official X (formerly Twitter) account of BNB Chain was hacked and phishing links were distributed.
On the 30th (local time), Cointelegraph reported that the official BNB Chain account with about 4 million followers was taken over by hackers and a phishing site link targeting virtual asset (cryptocurrency) wallets was posted.
Changpeng Zhao (CZ), Binance founder, warned, "Hackers posted multiple phishing site links that request WalletConnect," and "Do not connect your wallet under any circumstances." He added, "The BNB Chain security team is currently working with X to suspend the account and restore access, and has also submitted takedown requests for the malicious phishing sites."
He continued, "Even if the link comes from the official account, be sure to check the domain," and reiterated, "Inspect domains carefully and act SAFU (safe)."
'23pds', SlowMist's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), explained that the attacker replaced the alphabet 'i' with 'l' in the phishing domain to disguise it as a legitimate site. He pointed out that the attack is linked to the notorious 'Inferno Drainer' group.
Inferno Drainer is a phishing service organization that emerged in 2022 and is notorious for providing tools that make it easy to deploy phishing sites that mimic the UI of legitimate virtual asset projects.
