U.S. shutdown — will it continue until next week… Higher likelihood of no vote this week↑
Summary
- The U.S. federal government's shutdown is increasingly likely to continue at least through next week.
- CNN reported that this week's congressional vote is not expected to take place.
- If the standoff between the two parties is not resolved, concerns such as closure of national parks and depletion of funding for programs that support low-income people could materialize.

The U.S. federal government shutdown is increasingly likely to continue at least through next week.
On the 2nd (local time), CNN reported that Democrats are expected to again block the short-term funding bill submitted by Republicans on the 3rd (local time), meaning a congressional vote is unlikely to take place this weekend.
Senate Republican Whip John Thune said, "It is unlikely the Senate will remain in session through the weekend to continue voting." He added, "There is a fourth chance tomorrow (Friday) to reopen the government, but if that too fails, we will take the weekend to consider it and return to vote again on Monday."
As the shutdown drags on, harms are materializing such as the closure of national parks and concerns over depletion of funding for programs that support low-income people, and it remains unclear when the standoff between the two parties will be resolved.
