Dunamu, which operates the virtual asset (cryptocurrency) exchange Upbit, announced on the 5th that it has prepared a "voice phishing prevention campaign" for the Chuseok holiday. This campaign was planned to minimize cyber fraud damage that increases during the holiday season.
Upbit, in its notice, guided examples of fraud by type such as fake exchanges, account rental, impersonation of executives and employees, smishing, romance scams, and fraudulent investment solicitations, and introduced ways to respond to them.
The campaign's contents include ▲Check whether the exchange is a reported virtual asset exchange, and do not fall for high-return bait! ▲Do not ever respond to inducements to rent your Upbit account! ▲Contacts impersonating prosecutors, the Financial Supervisory Service, and Upbit executives and employees are actually scams! ▲Malicious links and smishing messages, be sure to check before clicking! ▲Approach based on romantic feelings? Beware of romance scams! ▲"Investment solicitations claiming 'loss compensation' are 100% fraud!" etc.
Meanwhile, Upbit has continuously strengthened its response system to prevent voice phishing and various frauds. In December 2021, it opened a 24-hour dedicated call center (1533-1111) to respond quickly to related crimes.
It also operates a real-time abnormal transaction detection system (FDS) and a deposit/withdrawal monitoring system and is upgrading related functions. According to Upbit, the amount of assets protected by FDS is about KRW 145 billion as of last August. Also, since 2020, through cooperation with financial institutions and investigative agencies, approximately 700 victims were refunded about KRW 14 billion.
An Upbit official said, "A society-wide effort is needed to stop cyber fraud," and "As Korea's leading exchange, Upbit will also do its best to prevent cyber fraud."
