Trump calls Democrats' actions over shutdown a "kamikaze-like attack"

On the 7th (local time), according to economic news channel Walter Bloomberg, U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized the Democratic Party in relation to the federal government shutdown (temporary work stoppage), calling it "almost a kamikaze (suicide attack unit) like attack."

President Trump, while meeting with Mark Carney, Canadian prime minister, at the White House that day, took questions from reporters ahead of the U.S. Senate's re-vote on a short-term spending bill (continuing resolution; CR) to end the shutdown.

He claimed "(the shutdown) was started by the Democrats," saying "They have nothing to lose because they were overwhelmingly defeated in the presidential election."

He went on to accuse the Democrats of deliberately prolonging the shutdown for political calculations, adding "We need cooperation to run the country."
