President Donald Trump announced on the 8th (local time) that Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas have reached an agreement on phase 1 of the 'Gaza peace plan'.
President Trump said on the social media platform Truth Social, "I am proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both agreed to phase 1 of our peace plan."
He added, "This is the first step toward a strong, enduring and permanent peace, meaning that all hostages will be released soon (very soon) and Israel will withdraw its forces to the agreed line." He emphasized, "All parties will be treated fairly."
President Trump said, "Today is a very great day for Arab and Islamic countries, Israel, all neighboring countries, and the United States," and thanked "the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye who cooperated with us to make this historic and unprecedented outcome possible."
On the 29th of last month, President Trump announced the 'Gaza peace plan' to end the two-year Gaza war, which includes the release of all hostages within 72 hours, a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, and post-war governance arrangements for the Gaza Strip.
