"Top 10% Investors Account for 91% of Domestic Virtual Asset Trading Volume"

In the domestic virtual asset (cryptocurrency) market, the top 10% of investors were found to account for more than 90% of total trading volume.
On the 9th, Rep. Lee Heon-seung (People Power Party), a member of the National Assembly's Standing Committee, said that, according to data submitted by the Financial Supervisory Service, from last year through June this year the combined buy and sell amounts of the top 10% of investors across five major domestic virtual asset exchanges totaled 6,555 trillion won. This corresponds to 91.2% of the total trading volume (7,188 trillion won).
In particular, trading concentration was high for major assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP. These three assets accounted for more than 40% of total trading volume, and the share of top investors' trading exceeded 90% at most exchanges.
Rep. Lee emphasized, "The structure in which the virtual asset market is dominated by a small number of investors is a serious vulnerability that threatens the soundness and fairness of the market," adding, "Institutional measures to protect ordinary investors and strengthen market transparency are urgently needed."
