On the 9th (local time), overseas economic news flash channel Walter Bloomberg said via X (formerly Twitter) that "the release of the U.S. weekly unemployment claims statistics will be delayed due to the government shutdown." The statistics were originally scheduled to be released at 9:30 p.m. that day (Korean time).
In a statement, the Labor Department said, "Weekly unemployment claims statistics are collected at the state level and are not released during periods of a federal government shutdown."
Weekly unemployment claims are a key indicator showing short-term trends in the U.S. labor market, and investors pay attention to them when gauging an economic slowdown or the possibility of interest rate cuts.
