Summary

  • U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly demanded Hamas's disarmament, warning that the United States may intervene directly if this is not carried out.
  • It reported that Israel and Hamas agreed to a Gaza truce plan, leading to an exchange of hostages and detainees.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned the Palestinian militant group Hamas, "If they do not disarm, we will disarm them."

President Trump told reporters on the 14th (local time) after meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House, "They (Hamas) said they would disarm themselves," adding, "If they do not, we will step in." He added, "It won't take long and it could be violent," and "They will know I'm not joking."

Under the Gaza truce plan proposed by President Trump, Israel and Hamas agreed, and the 20 surviving Israeli hostages who had been held in Gaza were all released the previous day. In response, Israel also released about 1,900 Palestinian detainees within its territory. The next steps in the truce plan remain: Hamas's disarmament; the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces; and the establishment of a Palestinian civilian government. However, large differences between the two sides over disarmament are expected to make future negotiations difficult.
