[Breaking] KOSPI breaks through 3,800 for the first time ever

KOSPI has broken through 3,800. It has been only two trading days since it broke through the 3,700 level. While foreigners were selling spot and futures, institutions and individuals pushed the index up.

As of 11:46 a.m. on the 20th, KOSPI was trading at 3,798.56, up 49.56 points (1.32%) from the previous day. However, it rose intraday to 3,802.53, breaking through the 3,800 level.

Although the index showed weakness early in the session, it turned upward thanks to net buying by individuals, and when institutions also turned to buying, the gains widened and it broke the 3,800 level around 11:40 a.m.

In the KOSPI market, institutions and individuals have bought 212.6 billion won and 167.8 billion won worth of stocks, respectively. As institutions returned to buying, the size of individuals' net buying shrank.

Foreigners are net selling 383 billion won worth of spot stocks and 222.8 billion won worth of KOSPI200 futures together.

Top market-cap stocks are generally rising.

Samsung Electronics is slightly weak; however, SK Hynix is up 3.22%.

LG Energy Solution, which surged last week, widened its intraday decline but rose to near flat.

Samsung Biologics is up 1.7%.

On hopes for Korea-US tariff negotiations, Hyundai Motor and Kia are up 2.06% and 2.41%, respectively.

Hanwha Aerospace is up 4.28%.

KOSDAQ is trading at 874.78, up 15.24 points (1.77%) from the previous day. In that market, foreigners and institutions are net buying 82.7 billion won and 38.6 billion won worth of stocks, respectively, while individuals are selling 107 billion won worth.

Top market-cap KOSDAQ stocks are also generally strong.

In particular, biotech stocks are surging. PharmaResearch is up 9.06%, Peptron is up 5.92%. Alteogen (2.54%), HLB (4.33%), and ABL Bio (2.8%) are also strong.

EcoPro BM is down 0.87%, but EcoPro is up 5.73%.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won–dollar exchange rate was trading at 1,420.4 won per dollar, down 1.8 won (0.13%) from the previous day.
