Summary

  • It was confirmed that SpaceX transferred approximately $268.5 million worth of Bitcoin to two unlabelled wallet addresses.
  • This transaction is the first material change in SpaceX's Bitcoin holdings since June 2022.
  • Analysts say the transfer is likely a simple wallet reorganization, but the specific purpose has not been disclosed.

It was confirmed that SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, transferred approximately $268.5 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC).

On the 21st (local time), The Block reported, "On-chain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence said SpaceX transferred 2495BTC to two unlabelled wallet addresses." Those addresses have not yet shown any records of asset movement or selling.

This transaction is the first material change to SpaceX's total Bitcoin holdings since June 2022, during which it had maintained around 8285BTC.

SpaceX did not disclose the purpose of this transfer, but 'Aunt Ai' analyst said, "This transaction is likely a simple wallet reorganization (reorganization)." He added, "There have been past cases where some of SpaceX's movements were revealed to be internal transfers to Coinbase Prime custody addresses."

Meanwhile, SpaceX did not make additional purchases after reducing its holdings by about 70% amid the mid-2022 Terra/Luna collapse and the fallout from FTX's bankruptcy. Tesla also sold most of its Bitcoin around the same time and currently holds about 11509BTC (about $1.24 billion).
