Tether, the world's largest stablecoin issuer, has set a new milestone in financial inclusion by reaching 500 million users.
On the 21st (local time), according to The Block, Paolo Ardoino, Tether's CEO, said on X, "USDT has officially surpassed 500 million users," and added, "This will be the greatest achievement in financial inclusion in history."
According to The Block's data dashboard, the total supply of Tether's dollar-pegged stablecoin USDT reached about $182 billion. The second-ranked Circle's USDC stands at around $75 billion, not even half of Tether's.
CEO Ardoino explained, "Programmable Money is the ultimate social network," and described it as "a P2P structure that can transmit information and value simultaneously."
Tether plans to launch 'USAT', a dollar-pegged stablecoin for the U.S. market, by the end of the year. With a new U.S. stablecoin regulatory framework recently established, not only virtual asset firms but also traditional financial institutions are actively moving to issue dollar-based digital assets.
