With more than 400 million dollars worth of virtual assets (cryptocurrencies) stolen by phishing attacks in the first half of this year, major global wallet services have begun building a real-time phishing defense network.
According to Cointelegraph on the 22nd (local time), major cryptocurrency wallet providers such as MetaMask, Phantom, WalletConnect, and Backpack have launched the 'Global Phishing Defense Network' in cooperation with the security alliance Security Alliance (SEAL).
MetaMask said, "We have built a global defense system where users around the world can together prevent the next large-scale phishing attack," and added, "This network is like creating a decentralized immune system for cryptocurrency security."
This defense network will operate together with the 'Verifiable Phishing Reports' system that Security Alliance unveiled last week. This system allows security researchers to prove that an actual malicious website contains phishing content.
Ohm Shah, a MetaMask security researcher, said, "Responding to drainers is an endless 'cat-and-mouse game'," and added, "Through collaboration we have established a practical defense system that can neutralize their infrastructure."
According to security firm CertiK, phishing attacks accounted for the largest share of security incidents in the first half of this year, and the losses exceeded 400 million dollars.
