Summary

  • The U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee said its review of the digital-asset market structure bill has been delayed to the final week of January due to the need for bipartisan agreement.
  • The bill is being discussed in a key standing committee that handles digital-asset regulatory provisions linked to the jurisdiction of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
  • With the schedule change, the bill is more likely to be taken up separately from the Senate Banking Committee, and the legislative process has been somewhat delayed.

The timetable for advancing a digital-asset market structure bill under discussion in the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee has been pushed back due to the need for bipartisan agreement.

According to CryptoAmerica host Eleanor Terrett on the 13th (local time), Senate Agriculture Committee Chair John Boozman said he has decided to postpone the markup review of the digital-asset market structure bill—originally scheduled for this Thursday alongside the Senate Banking Committee—to the final week of January.

Boozman cited the need for additional time for discussions as the reason for the delay, explaining that it is intended to preserve bipartisan support for the legislation. The Senate Agriculture Committee is regarded as a key standing committee that handles digital-asset regulatory provisions tied to the jurisdiction of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

As a result of the decision, the bill is more likely to be considered separately from the Senate Banking Committee’s schedule. The two committees had initially planned to review the market structure bill on the same day, but the Agriculture Committee’s rescheduling has somewhat slowed the legislative process.
