Denmark’s foreign minister rejects Trump’s request for talks on ‘acquiring Greenland’

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said he would reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s demand for negotiations related to acquiring Greenland.
According to Walter Bloomberg, an account that posts breaking economic news, Rasmussen stressed on the 21st (local time) that Denmark’s basic stance on the Greenland issue remains unchanged, adding that Denmark will not enter into acquisition talks with the United States.
Earlier, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Trump said, “Only the United States can protect and develop Greenland and make it beneficial to Europe and the United States,” adding that he is “pursuing negotiations to discuss acquiring Greenland.” He has also said that the possibility of using force is off the table.
The Danish government has reaffirmed that Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and has maintained that it will not compromise on matters related to sovereignty.
