The Canadian government has officially said it has no plans to conclude a free trade agreement (FTA) with China.

According to Watcher.Guru on the 26th (local time), Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney denied any related discussions, saying, “We have no plans to pursue a free trade agreement with China.” The remarks came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump raised the possibility of a Canada-China trade deal and warned of steep tariffs.

Earlier, on the 24th, President Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, “If Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, thinks he can turn Canada into a conduit between China and the United States, he is greatly mistaken,” adding, “The moment Canada makes a deal with China, we will impose a 100% tariff on all Canadian goods and products entering the United States.”
