U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren drew a line against legal action over Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ)'s defamation claim, saying "the remarks are based on fact."
On the 3rd (Korean time), according to virtual asset (cryptocurrency) specialist media The Block, Warren's lawyer Ben Stafford submitted a letter rebutting the defamation lawsuit filed by Zhao's side.
Earlier, Warren posted on X (Twitter) immediately after Zhao's pardon, "(Zhao) pleaded guilty to criminal money-laundering charges." In response, Zhao's side sent a letter to Warren demanding that she "immediately retract the statements that defamed his reputation."
The letter noted that Warren's remarks were based on facts. Attorney Stafford said, "Zhao pleaded guilty to criminal charges for violating the Bank Secrecy Act, which the U.S. Department of Justice has described as 'the United States' leading anti-money-laundering law,'" and added, "Warren's remarks were based on publicly verifiable facts and were made without malice." He also said, "This case is a criminal offense, not a mere administrative sanction."
