On the 5th (local time), the U.S. political publication Politico reported that Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries sent a letter to President Trump saying, "(We) request a bipartisan leaders' meeting to end the federal government shutdown and resolve the Republicans' healthcare crisis."
The Democrats also requested the attendance of Senate Republican Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson at this meeting. In the letter, Leader Schumer said, "The Democrats are ready to meet with you directly anytime, anywhere."
