U.S. Nasdaq said that obtaining approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a proposal to allow tokenized stocks (Tokenized Stocks) is its top priority.
On the 30th (local time), according to Cointelegraph, Matt Savarese(Matt Savarese), Nasdaq's head of digital asset strategy, said in a CNBC interview, "We will work with the SEC as quickly as possible to proceed with the approval process for tokenized stocks," adding, "As for the possibility of approval within this year, it depends on the speed at which public hearing comments and the SEC's inquiries are returned."
He went on to emphasize, "We will move as quickly as possible." Earlier, on September 8, Nasdaq requested in a proposal submitted to the SEC that trading of shares of U.S.-listed companies be allowed in the form of digital tokens. This is a 'tokenized security' that reflects actual shares on a 1:1 basis and is a method to make them tradable on a blockchain.
Savarese made clear that the system is not intended to disrupt the existing financial order. He explained, "Nasdaq is not trying to upend the system," and added, "We aim to increase technical efficiency while maintaining the core structure of investment methods."
