Summary

  • "Solana Mobile" is expanding into the Android ecosystem, and through a partnership with MediaTek it has increased the likelihood that Solana wallet functionality will be built into smartphones by default.
  • In 2026 they will launch a new security layer 'Guardian' to strengthen device security and on-chain action verification functionality.
  • Solana Mobile will expand revenue sharing with developers and hardware partners and support ecosystem growth through large-scale hackathons.

Solana (SOL)'s mobile strategy is reaching a turning point, expanding from an independent device-focused phase to the global smartphone ecosystem.

At 'Breakpoint 2025' held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on the 13th (local time), Emmett Hollyer, head manager of Solana Mobile, said, "2025 was the year the Solana Mobile ecosystem proved its marketability and scalability, and 2026 will be the year to expand this to a large user base."

Hollyer first assessed that Solana Mobile's first device, 'Saga', showed faster growth than expected. He said, "The Saga device has sent a strong signal in the market, attracting hundreds of thousands of downloads and over 100 million dollars in on-chain transactions since launch," adding, "It clearly showed that what users want is not simple hardware but a secure mobile experience that connects to the on-chain immediately."

The biggest announcement was that Solana Mobile's technology stack will expand to the Android ecosystem. Solana Mobile has formed a partnership with Taiwan's MediaTek and has launched a project to enable Android OEM manufacturers to have Solana's 'secure module·key management·on-chain integration features' built in by default. MediaTek supplies chipsets for 45~50% of global Android smartphones, which effectively means a "smartphone era with Solana wallet functionality built in by default" could be opening.

Hollyer called this "the biggest inflection point for mobile crypto adoption," emphasizing, "The foundation is open for hundreds of millions of Android devices worldwide to connect to the Solana network." He added, "If Solana Mobile started with independent devices in the past, it is now entering a phase of expanding to the entire global hardware ecosystem."

A new feature 'Guardian' to be released in 2026 was also unveiled. Guardian is a new security layer that integrates device and wallet security, on-chain action verification, and recovery through decentralized guardians, providing network-level protection when users lose their devices or face attack risks. Hollyer said, "It will be a new form of security model that combines hardware security and on-chain," and added, "Starting in 2026, mobile will not be a simple access channel but a core entry point to the Solana network."

Meanwhile, Solana Mobile also announced plans to expand support for the developer ecosystem. They plan a structure to directly allocate a certain percentage of total revenue to developers and hardware partners, and to hold a large hackathon in 2026 to discover new applications and support ecosystem expansion.

Hollyer concluded, "2025 was the 'year of proof', and 2026 will be the 'year of expansion'," emphasizing, "Solana Mobile will become a true mobile on-ramp that provides on-chain experiences to hundreds of millions of global users."
