A U.S. man has been indicted on charges of stealing digital assets totaling $16 million (about 21 billion won) from about 100 users of the digital asset exchange Coinbase.
On the 20th (Korean time), according to CryptoNews, 23-year-old Ronald Spector, who lives in Brooklyn, posed as a Coinbase employee, approached victims, and had them transfer digital assets to his wallet.
Spector told victims, "Hackers can steal funds," tricking them into transferring digital assets to his wallet. The transferred funds were then laundered through mixers, token swap services, and gambling sites.
Investigators obtained a message that he lost $6 million gambling, and Spector was indicted on 31 counts.
Authorities have seized digital assets worth $400,000 and are continuing their tracking work.
