Summary

  • Truebit Protocol (TRU) said it suffered losses of about 8,500 Ether due to a large-scale hack.
  • After the hacking news, the TRU token price crashed from the 230-won range to 0.000018 won, leaving it effectively with virtually no token value.
  • With buy-side demand drying up, some investors reportedly cannot even sell, and Truebit said it has asked users to halt interaction with the affected smart contract.

Truebit Protocol (TRU), an Ethereum (ETH)-based blockchain verification computing project, plunged intraday after suffering losses from a large-scale hacking attack.

According to PeckShield, a cryptocurrency security firm, the hacker targeted Truebit Protocol’s smart contracts and stole about 8,500 Ether.

As news of the hack spread, investor panic-selling began. Truebit Protocol, which had been trading in the 230-won range, tumbled to as low as 0.000018 won in about an hour—effectively leaving the token with virtually no value.

In addition, with buy-side demand evaporating, some investors were reportedly unable to sell at all.

Truebit said on its official X (formerly Twitter) that “a specific smart contract was attacked,” and asked users to “stop interacting with that contract until further notice.” It added that it is “working with investigative authorities to look into the circumstances of the incident.”
