On the 18th (Korea time), The Kobeissi Letter reported that "Senate Democrats are advancing legislation to block the 10% tariffs newly announced by President Trump on eight European countries."
Overnight, President Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, "For decades, the United States has not imposed tariffs on Denmark and European Union (EU) countries—effectively providing subsidies," adding, "Now it is time for Denmark to pay the price." He also claimed that "China and Russia want Greenland, and Denmark has no means to stop them."
He said that starting Feb. 1 the U.S. will impose a 10% tariff on all goods exported to the United States by those countries, and will raise it to 25% starting June 1. He explained that the tariffs "will remain in place until an agreement is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland."
