In January this year, blockchain user metrics for Solana (SOL) and Ethereum (ETH) showed marked improvement.

On the 31st (Korea time), Cointelegraph, citing data from blockchain analytics firm Nansen, reported that the number of daily active addresses on the Solana network rose by about 115% month on month in January. In particular, in the second half of January, daily active addresses consistently exceeded 5 million.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology sits behind this improvement. Anthropic’s recently launched AI agent “Claude Cowork” can control a user’s desktop, proving highly effective at automating repetitive tasks such as token issuance.

Indeed, meme-coin launches have recently surged on Bags, a Solana-based token issuance platform. Over the same period, the number of meme coins launched on Bags surpassed that of a rival platform, PUMP.

Alongside increased network usage, fee revenue also jumped. On the 16th, Solana’s daily fee revenue totaled $4.5 million, up about 400% from September to December last year.

Ethereum’s user metrics also improved. In December last year, Ethereum regained the lead in daily active addresses, overtaking major Layer 2 (L2) networks. In January, daily active addresses then increased by 25%. This is seen as the result of ongoing upgrades aimed at improving network scalability and reducing fees.
