After a last-minute tug-of-war over restarting nuclear negotiations, the United States and Iran on the 6th began their first meeting in Muscat, Oman.
Tasnim and other foreign media outlets reported in unison that nuclear talks between the US and Iran, mediated by Oman, officially got under way in Muscat, the Omani capital, that day.
Iran was represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the US delegation was led by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. Earlier in the day, each met separately with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.
Minister Araghchi told Minister al-Busaidi that Iran was "prepared to use diplomacy to secure national interests while also defending sovereignty and security against excessive demands or adventurist actions."
The US-Iran nuclear talks are taking place for the first time in about nine months. The two sides held five rounds of talks last year, but dialogue was cut off due to issues related to Israel.
According to foreign media reports, the agenda for the meeting is said to be limited to the nuclear issue and sanctions relief.
