Bithumb, a virtual asset (cryptocurrency) exchange, said it will increase compensation for users in connection with the erroneous Bitcoin (BTC) crediting incident that occurred on its platform last week.

On the 11th, Lee Jae-won, CEO of Bithumb, attended a plenary meeting of the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee held at the National Assembly building and said, “We are currently estimating the scale of damage related to the erroneous crediting incident,” adding, “We will expand the damage compensation plan so that appropriate compensation can be provided.”

This was a response to criticism in the National Assembly that Bithumb’s compensation for victims is insufficient.

Kim Hyun-jung, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, pointed out, “Waiving fees for one week for Bithumb users and paying 20,000 won are not compensation measures that fit this incident. It is called compensation, but at the current level it is virtually closer to marketing,” adding, “Greater compensation is needed.”
