Blockchain-based lender Figure Technology said some data was leaked in a hack that used social engineering techniques (a method that targets people rather than employing sophisticated hacking attacks).

According to Cryptopolitan on the 14th (Korea time), Figure spokesperson Alessia Jadick said in a statement, “An employee was manipulated into allowing access to certain files through an account, and someone downloaded them,” adding, “We immediately blocked the activity and have hired a forensic firm to investigate which files were affected.”

Figure added that it is communicating with relevant partners and potentially affected individuals, and is providing free credit monitoring services to those who need to be notified.

It did not provide details on the specific scope of the leak or the scale of the damage.

Meanwhile, a hacking group known as “ShinyHunters” claimed on the dark web to be behind the breach, alleging it had posted about 2.5GB (gigabytes) of data.
