As debate continues in the United States over documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, it has emerged that Epstein had planned discussions with former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler regarding crypto assets (cryptocurrencies).
According to BeInCrypto on the 17th (Korea time), in an email Epstein sent in May 2018 to former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, he wrote that “Gary Gensler is coming earlier to discuss digital currency.”
This was identified through the “Epstein Files” released by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
In another file as well, Epstein said, “I have a schedule related to crypto assets with Gensler tomorrow.” However, the documents did not confirm whether the two actually met.
The documents also show that Epstein donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab and the Digital Currency Initiative (DCI). At the time, former SEC Chair Gensler was serving as an MIT professor.
