The Democratic Party of Korea’s (DPK) Digital Assets Task Force (TF), launched to advance Phase 2 digital-asset legislation, has begun collecting input from its advisory members to finalize its draft. With the party’s policy committee having said it will include the Financial Services Commission’s government bill in the Phase 2 legislative package, the TF plans to reflect discussions from the meeting and convey its stance again to the committee.

Ahead of the ‘Digital Assets TF members and advisory group meeting’ held at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 24th, TF chair Lee Jeong-moon said, “Today is an opportunity to hear advisers’ views on the consolidated proposal we have prepared so far,” adding, “Based on the feedback gathered, we plan to once again deliver the TF’s position to the policy committee.”

With a large number of advisers who have continuously shared input throughout the drafting process attending the meeting, some observers say the session could prove a turning point in determining the direction of Phase 2 digital-asset legislation.

DPK lawmaker Ahn Do-geol said, “The TF has prepared a consolidated proposal, and today we are collecting advisers’ opinions to develop a more refined draft,” adding, “We plan to appropriately coordinate the details and introduce the final bill.”

Lawmaker Min Byeong-deok also underscored the importance of the meeting. “The digital-asset market is not one that is easy to manage; it needs to be a market that moves actively,” he said. “If it becomes finance that is not used at all, we will ultimately have no choice but to remain a Galapagos.” He added, “Advisers are those who can provide more objective views for a major digital-asset innovation,” and said the TF will “fully reflect diverse opinions to design a balanced system.”
