A critical security vulnerability was found in Ripple’s blockchain network, the XRP Ledger (XPRL), in an update slated for mainnet deployment, but it was reportedly identified and fixed before formal activation.

According to Cointelegraph on the 27th (KST), the XRP Ledger Foundation said in a statement that it had fixed “a major logical flaw identified in a code amendment related to signature verification logic.”

The vulnerability was discovered on the 19th during an analysis by a security engineer at cybersecurity firm Cantina and an AI-based security auditing tool.

The foundation said that if the flaw had been exploited at scale, it could have not only altered ledger state and enabled fund theft, but also undermined trust across the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem.

The foundation recommended that validators vote against the amendment and, on the 23rd, released an emergency update version that blocks individual activation.
