A critical security vulnerability was found in an update slated for mainnet deployment on Ripple’s blockchain network, the XRP Ledger (XRPL), but was reportedly identified and fixed before it was formally activated.
According to Cointelegraph on the 27th (Korea time), the XRP Ledger Foundation said in a statement that it had fixed “a significant logical flaw confirmed in a code amendment related to signature-verification logic.”
The vulnerability was discovered on the 19th during an analysis by security engineers at cybersecurity firm Cantina and an AI-based security auditing tool.
The foundation said that if the flaw had been exploited at scale, it could have undermined trust across the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem, including by enabling changes to the ledger state and the theft of funds.
The foundation advised validators to vote against the amendment and distributed an emergency update version on the 23rd that blocks individual activation.
