US President Donald Trump said the recent surge in oil prices was “a small price to pay for security and peace.”
On the 8th (local time), Trump wrote on Truth Social that “if Iran’s nuclear threat is removed, oil prices that have risen in the short term will quickly fall,” adding that it is “a cost worth bearing for the safety and peace of the United States and the world.”
He also added, “Those who do not understand this are foolish.”
International oil prices have been soaring—topping $110 a barrel—as tensions in the Middle East escalate following recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran. The market is pointing to concerns over supply disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and expanding geopolitical risk as key drivers of higher energy prices.
