Michael Saylor, chairman of Strategy, has hinted at additional purchases of Bitcoin (BTC) despite the recent market downturn.
According to Cointelegraph on the 23rd (local time), Saylor posted on social media the previous day a message saying, “The Orange March Continues,” along with a chart showing the company’s Bitcoin purchase history. Such posts are typically interpreted as a signal of further buying.
Strategy has already continued large-scale buying this month. It added Bitcoin worth about 2.9 trillion won in total, purchasing roughly 17,994 BTC on the 9th and 22,337 BTC on the 16th.
However, unrealized losses have widened amid the recent decline in Bitcoin’s price. Bitcoin fell about 4% over the weekend, sliding to the $67,000 range before paring some losses, but it remains below Strategy’s average purchase price (about $75,696). As a result, the company appears to have entered an unrealized loss zone of around 10% based on current mark-to-market levels.
Strategy has funded its Bitcoin purchases by raising capital through measures such as issuing high-yield preferred stock, but it was reported that there have recently been constraints on additional fundraising via that method.
Meanwhile, Strategy’s shares (MSTR) have fallen about 6% over the past week, giving back part of their gains. The market is assessing that the company’s aggressive Bitcoin-holding strategy could act as a risk factor, as it is highly exposed to short-term volatility.
