Ruling and opposition lawmakers on digital-asset policy bodies say their coin holdings are 'small amounts'

Most lawmakers serving on key bipartisan bodies at the National Assembly that discuss digital-asset policy were found not to hold virtual assets (cryptocurrencies).

According to lawmakers’ asset-change filings disclosed on the 26th, many members of the Democratic Party of Korea’s Digital Asset TF were confirmed to have no digital-asset holdings for themselves or their family members.

First, Rep. Lee Jung-moon of the Democratic Party of Korea, who chairs the TF, was confirmed not to hold digital assets, and Rep. Ahn Do-geol, the TF’s secretary, was also found not to own digital assets. In Ahn’s case, however, his eldest and second sons reported holding roughly 20 million won worth of digital assets, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

Reps. Kang Jun-hyeon, Min Byung-deok and Park Min-gyu of the Democratic Party of Korea also reported no digital-asset holdings. In addition, Rep. Kim Hyun-jung was found to have a current holding of 0 won after her second son sold all of the digital assets he had held.

Rep. Lee Joo-hee reported that her mother newly purchased XRP worth about 1 million won.

The situation was not markedly different for members of the People Power Party’s “Stock and Digital Asset Value-Up Special Committee.”

Rep. Kim Sang-hoon of the People Power Party, who chairs the committee, was found to have a spouse holding multiple digital assets including XRP, but the amount held was limited to 6 million won.

Rep. Kim Jae-seop reported holding about 2 million won worth of the stablecoins (digital assets pegged to fiat currency) USDC and Tether (USDT).

Reps. Ko Dong-jin, Kim Eun-hye and Choi Bo-yoon were found to have no reported digital-asset holdings.
