U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that in connection with the military clash with Iran, “the United States will withdraw in the near term,” signaling it has no intention of a prolonged engagement.
According to Al Jazeera on the 28th (Korea time), Vance said in an interview with podcaster Benny Johnson that “the United States has already achieved most of its military objectives,” while adding that “to prevent a full re-engagement, President Donald Trump will continue the operation for the time being.”
He explained, “The goal is to significantly degrade the Iranian government’s capabilities so the same situation does not repeat for a long time after we leave,” adding, “To that end, the president will keep the operation going a bit longer.”
Vance also acknowledged that international oil prices have risen as a result of the clash. He said, “The current rise in oil prices is only a temporary reaction,” and predicted, “This conflict will end as a short-term clash, and oil prices will stabilize soon.”
He went on to reiterate, “The president has made it clear he has no interest in staying in Iran 1 year, 2 years from now,” adding, “We will withdraw soon after taking the necessary measures.”
