Republican US senators have introduced legislation aimed at expanding domestic production in the Bitcoin (BTC) mining industry.

According to Cointelegraph on the 30th (local time), Senators Bill Cassidy and Cynthia Lummis introduced the “Mined in America Act,” and are pushing to strengthen the US base for mining infrastructure and equipment production.

The centerpiece of the bill is the introduction of a “Made in America” certification program designed to encourage voluntary participation by mining facilities and mining pools. Certified facilities would be required to phase out the use of mining equipment produced by companies linked to foreign adversaries and support the manufacture of mining equipment in the United States.

The bill also includes provisions for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to support the development of safer and more energy-efficient mining equipment. It also incorporates a plan to codify President Donald Trump’s executive order on a “strategic Bitcoin reserve.”

The United States currently ranks first with about a 38% share of the global Bitcoin hash rate after China’s mining ban in 2021. However, roughly 97% of mining equipment production still depends on Chinese companies such as Bitmain and MicroBT.

The industry says the bill could serve as a catalyst to reduce overseas dependence in the mining equipment supply chain and to pair energy infrastructure with a Bitcoin stockpiling policy as a strategic asset.
