Iran’s Fars News Agency reported on the 4th (local time) that multiple explosions occurred at the Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone in Mahshahr, Khuzestan province, in the country’s southwest.

At least three powerful blasts were reported within the Mahshahr petrochemical complex, with smoke said to be billowing from parts of the area.

Local authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact scale of the damage or the location of the blast.

Khuzestan Deputy Governor Valiollah Hayati, citing preliminary findings, claimed it was “believed to be an aerial attack by the United States and Israel.”
