Solana begins testing defenses against 'quantum-computing threat'… "Stronger security leads to slower performance"
Summary
- Solana (SOL) is reported to be conducting tests to apply post-quantum cryptography in cooperation with Project Eleven.
- The tests confirmed the potential for stronger security, but also resulted in performance degradation, with data sizes increasing by 20–40 times and speeds slowing by about 90%.
- CoinDesk reported that this clashes with Solana’s structure, which emphasizes fast processing, and assessed that it creates a dilemma between security and performance degradation.
Forecast Trend Report by Period

As Solana (SOL) begins testing security technologies to prepare for the era of quantum computers, early results reportedly confirmed a clear trade-off between tighter security and slower performance.
According to CoinDesk, a cryptocurrency-focused outlet, on the 4th (Korea time) the Solana Foundation is conducting experiments to apply "post-quantum cryptography" in cooperation with the cryptography firm Project Eleven.
Post-quantum cryptography is designed to prepare for the possibility that future quantum computers could break existing cryptographic systems. In fact, the industry has raised concerns that if quantum computers are realized, they could threaten the security of today’s blockchains.
Test results suggest the chances of improving security are promising, but performance degradation emerged as security is strengthened. Specifically, post-quantum-resistant signature schemes were found to increase data size by 20–40 times compared with existing methods, while speeds fell by about 90%.
CoinDesk assessed that "this conflicts with Solana’s architecture, which touts fast processing speeds as a key strength," adding that "the more security is strengthened, the more it creates a dilemma with performance degradation."
