  • He warned that if node operating costs rise due to increased storage and network usage, it could lead to network centralization.
  • He argued that without maintaining the rules limiting data size in Bitcoin transactions, Bitcoin could be used for data storage rather than as a payment method.

A call has been made for conservative software implementation to preserve Bitcoin’s (BTC) decentralization and monetary characteristics.

According to Cointelegraph on the 5th (Korea time), Jimmy Song, co-founder of Production Ready, a non-profit that supports Bitcoin development, said, “The principle is not to change anything unless you’re confident it makes Bitcoin better money,” adding that “we need ‘conservative nodes.’” A conservative node refers to a development philosophy that Bitcoin software should be changed as cautiously and minimally as possible.

Song noted that rising node operating costs could lead to network centralization. He explained, “As storage and network usage increase, it becomes harder for ordinary users to run nodes themselves, and validation authority could ultimately become concentrated among a small number of participants,” adding, “The network becomes more decentralized and resilient when anyone can easily run a node.”

In particular, Song argued, “There is a need to keep the existing rules that limit the amount of data that can be included in Bitcoin transactions,” saying, “If data capacity expands excessively, the network burden increases, making it more likely that Bitcoin will be used for data storage rather than as a payment method.”
