Circle unveils post-quantum roadmap… warns cryptographic systems could be threatened before 2030
Summary
- Circle said it has unveiled a post-quantum (quantum-resistant) roadmap for its own Layer 1 blockchain “Arc.”
- Circle said it will phase in quantum resistance across wallets, private state, validators and infrastructure, and will introduce an opt-in approach for post-quantum signatures on mainnet.
- Circle warned about advances in quantum computing, threats to existing public-key cryptosystems, and the potential for “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks; the market interpreted this as a preemptive move to respond to changes in blockchain security frameworks.

Circle has unveiled a post-quantum (quantum-resistant) roadmap for its Layer 1 (L1) blockchain, “Arc.”
According to WuBlockchain on the 6th (local time), Circle said it is pursuing a plan to roll out quantum resistance in phases across wallets, private state, validators and the broader infrastructure stack.
On mainnet, an optional “opt-in” approach is set to be introduced for post-quantum signatures.
Circle warned that if quantum-computing technology advances rapidly, it could threaten existing public-key cryptosystems even before 2030. In particular, it flagged as a key risk the so-called “harvest now, decrypt later” attack, in which adversaries collect data today and decrypt it in the future.
The market is interpreting the roadmap as a preemptive step to prepare for longer-term shifts in blockchain security frameworks.
