Iran has specified negotiating terms by presenting its own "10-point set of demands" in response to a US peace plan.
According to the Kobeissi Letter on the 6th (local time), Iran, in response to the "15-point peace plan" recently proposed by the United States, set out key conditions including ▲guarantees against renewed attacks ▲a permanent end to the war rather than a simple ceasefire ▲a halt to Israeli attacks in Lebanon ▲a full lifting of sanctions on Iran ▲an end to regional conflicts involving Iran’s allies.
The conditions also included items related to the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said it would reopen the strait if its demands are accepted, while proposing to levy a transit fee of about $2 million per vessel and share the proceeds with Oman. It also included plans to establish rules to ensure safe navigation through the strait and to use the revenue as funding for postwar reconstruction.
The proposal is interpreted as a step beyond its previous hardline stance, putting negotiating terms into a formal, written framework. However, assessments suggest the likelihood of it leading to an actual agreement is limited, as most of the demands are at a level the United States and the Western bloc would find difficult to accept.
Meanwhile, with roughly 25 hours remaining in the negotiation deadline put forward by US President Donald Trump, whether a deal can be reached in the short term is drawing attention as a key variable that will determine whether tensions in the Middle East further escalate.
