U.S. consumer prices rose less than expected in March.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics, part of the Labor Department, said on April 10 that the consumer price index increased 3.3% from a year earlier in March. That was 0.1 percentage point below the 3.4% estimate compiled by Dow Jones. On a monthly basis, the index rose 0.9%.
Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose 2.6% from a year earlier. That also undershot economists' forecast of 2.7%.
