Pakistan, which is mediating negotiations between the US and Iran, has stepped up diplomatic efforts to arrange a second round of talks.

The Associated Press, citing sources, reported on April 20 that Pakistan has been in contact with the US and Iran since April 19 and is coordinating to restart negotiations as early as Tuesday.

Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Natalie Baker, the US charge d'affaires in Islamabad, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and preparations for the talks. He said comprehensive security measures had been put in place.

The US and Iran had been due to hold talks on April 20, but the meeting now appears unlikely to go ahead as differences between the two sides persist.
