Tensions in the Middle East are rising again after Iran said it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz as long as the sea blockade remains in place.

Tasnim News Agency reported on April 21 that Iran views the continued blockade as an ongoing hostile act. Tehran said it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, at a minimum, for as long as the blockade is maintained.

Iran also warned it could break the blockade by force if necessary.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key flashpoint as tensions persist over the U.S. sea blockade on Iran. Tehran considers the U.S. blockade a violation of the ceasefire and has repeatedly said it will maintain control of the strait until the blockade is lifted.
