In a Truth Social post on April 21, Trump wrote that Iran does not want the waterway closed because it can earn about $500 million a day when the strait is open. He claimed Iran is now losing that revenue because of the closure.

He also took a hard line on negotiations, saying no deal with Iran would be possible if the strait were reopened. Trump added that an agreement could not be reached unless "the rest of Iran," including its leadership, was destroyed.
