The Solana ecosystem is moving to strengthen its cryptography against potential threats from quantum computing.

On April 27, the Solana Foundation said it had adopted Falcon, a post-quantum signature scheme, based on independent research by Anza and Jump Crypto.

The foundation said it had completed an initial implementation of the signature system and that no protocol-level changes are currently needed.

It has also established an upgrade path for a phased transition if quantum computing technology advances further.

The move is a preemptive step to address the long-term risk that quantum computers could undermine existing cryptographic systems, bolstering blockchain network security.
