Ark Invest, the US asset manager led by Cathie Wood, laid out a bullish outlook for Bitcoin.
CoinDesk reported on May 1 that Ark said in its annual "Big Ideas" report that Bitcoin could post explosive growth as it becomes an essential asset class in global investment portfolios. The firm projected Bitcoin's market capitalization could reach $16 trillion by 2030.
Bitcoin's current market capitalization is about $1.5 trillion, implying its price could rise more than tenfold from current levels.
The report said accelerating institutional adoption would drive that growth, pointing to spot exchange-traded funds, corporate treasury allocations and adoption of Bitcoin as a national reserve asset. It estimated that if Bitcoin makes up just 2.5% of the roughly $200 trillion global investment portfolio market, that alone would add about $5 trillion to its market capitalization.
Ark also said Bitcoin could add another $10 trillion in market value if it captures 40% of gold's market capitalization as "digital gold."
