Crypto scammers are targeting industry figures attending XRP's flagship event, XRP Las Vegas, according to a report.
On May 2, crypto-focused outlet Protos reported that impersonator accounts on social media were using artificial intelligence to target participants at the XRP Las Vegas conference. The accounts posted fake photos of women generated with AI and made to look as though they were taken in front of the conference's official banner, then used those images to approach attendees on social platforms.
"Pig butchering" is a romance scam in which fraudsters build trust by posing as romantic partners, then coax victims into making cryptocurrency investments or donations before stealing their money.
Ripple Chief Executive Officer Brad Garlinghouse and Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz were among the speakers at the conference. Protos said investors who bought expensive tickets and traveled to the event could be attractive targets for impersonators.
